Artist Doing Portrait, oil painting by Kathleen Deyo
How it works

From photographs to a painting that feels like them.

Kathleen has painted portraits, murals, and commissioned pieces for over three decades, from magazine-commissioned trompe l’oeil to family portraits with the small objects and gestures that make a person recognizable at a glance.

Most portraits are painted from your photographs, with a conversation first about the person, the pet, or the house, and what should quietly appear in the background.

02

See it take shape

Kathleen shares the work in progress at the sketch stage so the likeness and mood are right before the final painting begins.

03

Receive the piece

The finished, signed original arrives carefully packed. Most commissions complete within a few weeks, timed for your occasion.

Questions

Commission FAQ.

What do you need from me to start?
A few clear photographs and the story behind them. For houses and pets, several angles help. For portraits, Kathleen will ask about the person. Their interests often end up painted quietly into the scene.
How long does a commission take?
Most watercolor portraits complete within a few weeks; oils take longer. Tell Kathleen your date: birthdays, anniversaries, and weddings are the most common deadlines, and print-ready keepsakes can bridge a tight timeline.
Do you paint murals or furniture?
Yes, this is the work that launched Kathleen’s career in the NY Times and “House Beautiful.” Trompe l’oeil, painted furniture, faux finishes, and full-room scenes are quoted per project.
Can I see examples first?
Browse the originals and press pages: the magazine features show commissioned work photographed in clients’ homes.
